What would the interface for creating the Earth look like? Volcanoes, tectonic plates, vegetation, oceans… I know I would love to design such an interface! “From Dust” is a God Game that is apparently in the vein of Spore or SimCity. It was created by frenchmanEric Chahi and will be released next year by Ubisoft . There still isn’t a whole lot of information out there about but it looks very interesting to say the least

Heart music, what would a symphony of hearts sound and look like, Terminalbeach (a collaboration between PURE and BERGER) visualized the heartbeats of 12 classical musicians of the Trondheim Sinfonietta in image and sound. Really interesting to see both media combined in this way…

Tech info:
PURE: “Visualisation is done with PD|Gem, composition and real-time notation with MAX/Jitter, analysis and statistics with both. The wireless signals from the heart rate sensors are received by an arduino board connected to the musician´s notation laptops via USB.”

Nicholas Felton is a designer mainly focused on data visualization projects. He created Daytum, a web application that allows you to register your daily activity (like who you met today, what areas in the city you hanged around, and stuff like that). Every year Nicholas designs and publishes his personal activity in a book called Felton Annual Report. Using tools like Processing he sketches the visual models to transform the data into beautiful information.

For this weekly diagram I was inspired by the TED talk of: John Underkoffler posted earlier on this blog, about handgestures that will control our digital world. Which made me wondering about our natural handgestures and movements, do they differ by culture, country or background and what would it look like if we just concentrate on handgestures when talking.

I choose three different cultures for this exercise: India (represented by: Shekhar Kapur), USA (represented by: Elizabeth Gilbert) and Kenya (respresented by Joseph Lekuton.)

This is a cute and funny video edition made by Surfap. You will agree with me if I say that we are bored of using Mario when you have to do something with videogames, but anyway who doesn’t love him? :D

Anyway, this video is a very good edition between real and CG footage. And [spoiler alert!] he gets the girl finally :D
